Toronto Transportation & Accommodation for Students

Airport Transportation

The Airport drive can take well over an hour during weekday rush hours. Airport limos have fixed rates to different parts of the city and cost from $35 $60.

It is illegal for city cabs to pick up passengers at the airport, unless they are called. Taxis usually cost twice as much as airport Limos.

The most expensive service is the language school pick-up and we never, never recommend it to international language students.

Toronto Public Transportation

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and GO Transit offer Toronto area commuter rail and bus commuter services.

Toronto Railway Services

Amtrak (800/872-7245) runs a daily trains from Toronto to Chicago and New York City.

VIA Rail Canada - (416/366-8411) runs trains to most major cities in Canada. Substantial discounts are available on Via Rail if you use your international student identification card. Amtrak and Via Rail operate from Toronto Union Station, 65-75 Front Street, between Bay and York Street in down town Toronto.

Toronto Student Accommodation

Toronto Hostels offer dorm rooms from $20 to 27. each per night.

ESL English Classes in Canada

ESL in Canada as education consultants recommends several independant ESL English classes for example: the FREE Toronto ESL Cafe English conversation classes, the free LINC classes for new Canadians, the free English classes at many libraries, the free classes at accredited TESL Teaching schools, some excellent Board of Education continuing education classes that cost 2 or 3 dollars per instructional hour and a few English classes at excellent independant ESL schools with their teachers and their programs.

For the best ESL classes in Canada - ESL in Canada offers ESL English classes in three formats:

1. Private classes with ESL in Canada teacher and curriculum.
2. English Classes with ESL in Canada program at a partner school.
3. Online Business English and ESL English Classes

ESL English classes can be generalized into specific types usually by language skills such as: reading, listening, pronunciation, conversation, grammar and writing or be a combination of English language skills.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University Loses Provincial ESL Program Funding

16 KPU English as a second language "ESL" instructors were let go earlier this year.

KPU did not receive the expected $1.35 million in domestic ESL funding from BC for 2014.

The reason was that funding for the school's domestic ESL programs will no longer come from BC.

Under the Canada-B.C. Immigration Agreement the domestic ESL programs will become the responsibility of the federal government as of April 2014.

The KPU student association is now looking at ways it can help as the ESL cuts were deemed to be of particular importance by the KSA council.
