New IYP Work Study Permits for Students in Canada

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed an agreement with Spain under Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada’s (DFAIT’s) International Youth Program (IYP) that would allow youth from Canada and Spain to travel and work in the other country for up to one year.

“The International Youth Program will benefit the long-term international interests of both Canada and Spain by helping our youth gain new opportunities for professional development through significant cultural and work experiences abroad,” said Minister Cannon.

Europe is one of the most attractive locations in which young Canadians can gain international work experience. Canada signed an agreement with Poland in May 2008 and is expected to sign agreements in the coming months with eight other European countries. Currently, Canadian participants can travel and work under the IYP in 19 countries.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is responsible for issuing work permits to foreign participants visiting Canada. To visit the CIC’s website go to: www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp.

The ESL in Canada internship preparation program is open to new Canadians, LINC graduates, international work/study visa students, students preparing for business school, students preparing for career training, graduates preparing for work in English speaking workplaces, job seekers who need to improve their business English, job candidates who need Canadian work experience or Canadian work references.

The internship preparation program meets all of the current (2009) CIC immigration rules and regulations and provides a safe and highly qualified Canadian work experience for all internship participants.

The internship skills preparation program is a 15 hour per week part-time program and operates in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This program can be taken concurrent with the ESL in Canada Business English program.
